When did SDSA open?

SDSA opened on September 2, 2014.

What is a charter school?

Do you charge tuition or fees to attend Salida del Sol Academy (SDSA)?

No. We do not charge tuition or any fees to attend.

Is there a dress code at SDSA?

Yes. All students are required to wear the purple or orange polos given to them daily. The uniform pants should be black or khaki. Pants may include shorts, capris, or skirts.

What if my child becomes ill at school?

We will care for ill students in our nurse’s station until we can reach you or one of your designated emergency contacts. If a minor injury occurs at school, our trained personnel will give first-aid treatment as necessary. We will notify you of the incident via phone or a note home. We will notify you of serious injuries and/or emergency medical situations immediately. In such an event, we will follow standard emergency procedures.

What is the class size at SDSA?

We strive to have classrooms topped out at 22 students.

What is the age requirement for kindergarten students?

Kindergartners must be five years old by October 1 of the year they intend to enroll.

Is SDSA a dual language education school?

Yes, SDSA is a dual language school. Monday, Wednesday and Friday are Spanish days and Tuesday and Thursday are English days. Science and Social Studies are taught in Spanish, Math is taught in English, and Language Arts are taught in both languages. SDSA uses the Gomez and Gomez methodology of language education.

What is AVID and are you an AVID school?

Yes, we are an AVID school and teach the program in all grades. AVID is a program that supports and promotes college and career readiness for our students and helps with the transition to high school. For more information, contact your student’s teacher of visit the AVID website

What “specials” are taught at SDSA?

We have music, art, physical education, and library/technology. Keyboarding is an additional elective class that is offered to middle school students.

Do you offer after-school activities?

Yes, we offer a variety of activities for our students. Due to the 21C federal grant, we are able to fund many clubs after school. Some of the clubs include Garden Club, Mexijuegos, Girls on the Run, Legos, Robotics, and Dance. Middle school has the following sports: girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, wrestling, boys and girls basketball, and boys and girls track and field.
